CU Challenges

See below an email I received this week that highlights some of the challenges that Edinburgh CU are facing at the moment. It is important to be aware of, and pray for the issues arising from it. No doubt, this may hit the Evening News fairly soon.
Colin.

"Dear Rupert, Michael, Jane, Colin and Karl,
I hope this finds you all well and encouraged at events in your church families. We have been encouraged to see above average numbers at the CUs in Edinburgh this year. Do pray that the new students grow in vision for how their time at university can be used in Christ’s service. Houseparties are coming up too, Edinburgh uni at the end of October and the joint CUs houseparty 17-19th November.

The difficulties at Edinburgh university over the ‘Pure’ relationships course are rapidly coming to a head. The student representative counsel have passed a motion (attached) that seeks to ban the course and picket it if it happens on campus. This was done without taking any evidence from the CU on whether their course is actually homophobic. The chaplain feels pushed into a corner by the insistence from EUSA that the course should not take place and the CUs firm stand that this is an issue of freedom of speech and access to information on choices. The SRC will also be making a media press release and UCCF will then also have to.

Do pray for progress whereby the work of the chaplaincy can be protected and the CU can be free to argue their case with the university senior management. For conversations with the EUSA president looking for a solution that will be acceptable to all. And above all that God would show himself loving, good and glorious through the actions of his people and that the core evangelism would continue unchecked.

Grateful for your interest and in Christ,
Matt Tindell
Ed. CU"
